The Waiting is the Hardest Part

Like the week between the Super Bowl Monday through Wednesday seems like an awfully long wait for the Sweet 16 which begins tomorrow.

There are four games Thursday and another four on Friday as we conclude this weekend with the men’s college basketball final four.

I am sticking with Kentucky, Wisconsin and Gonzaga to make it through the weekend. I had picked Virginia as my fourth finalist but I landed on the only ACC team that underperformed last week. I am currently struggling with Michigan State over Louisville or vice versa. I will go with Michigan State reluctantly. And it wouldn’t surprise me now to see either in the finals against Kentucky.

So my final four would see Kentucky over Wisconsin and Gonzaga over Michigan State. Before that however we may be treated to a Wisconsin-Arizona and a Duke-Gonzaga matchup in the Elite 8. On paper those look like unreal games.

Let me take a second to say how badly Wichita State got shafted by the committee. Not only were they seeded number 7. They were the lowest number 7 and placed in Kentucky’s bracket. If the Shockers America’s team right now (not mine it’s Gonzaga) get by Notre Dame Thursday and they are a 2 pt favorite over the No. 3 seed to do, they meet Kentucky in the Elite 8 matchup.

And they will have revenge on their minds as Kentucky ended Wichita States unbeaten streak and more importantly their season last year with a thrilling 78-76 win. We talked last year about Kentucky being under seeded at number 8. It could be an interesting twist this year.

In my wildest dreams I would have Gonzaga beating Wichita State in the finals (unless the sports book here in Bimini needed the Shockers of course).

Here are the updated odds in Bimini to win the championship:

  • Kentucky -140
  • Arizona 9-2
  • Duke 6-1
  • Wisconsin 6-1
  • Gonzaga 8-1
  • Michigan State 12-1
  • Oklahoma 18-1
  • Wichita State 20-1
  • Louisville 20-1
  • Utah 25-1
  • Notre Dame 28-1
  • North Carolina 28-1
  • NC State 40-1
  • West Virginia 50-1
  • UCLA 60-1
  • Xavier 75-1
